Next category of : ! Specifically for now.

All-time favorite that I ultimately credit with setting me on the path to my chosen career: Chrono Trigger. This game really solidified my love for video games, which eventually led me to another favorite: The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. I spent a lot of time playing around in the construction kit, which kicked off my interest in computer programming.

"Oh dear, you have a lot of... things."
The cyborg looked up. "The word is prosthetics."
"So much machinery. Don't you worry you will stop being human?"
"Oh, there is a line I will not cross."
"What line is that?"
"I will not question another person's humanity."

A lot of the friction of modern life comes from capitalism's mandate that the workplace must operate with the smallest number of staff possible. To do otherwise is to needlessly spend money that could go to profits, the theory goes.

In practice, this means that every workplace is constantly running on the ragged edge of failure and disaster, keeping it together by their fingernails. So staff are stressed, struggling and burned out, and customers are rarely if ever satisfied.

As you might have seen from the last boost, PeerTube's latest version now supports "ability to automatically import all videos from a remote channel (from another video platform)".

What does this mean?

It means you can automatically import your videos from YouTube to PeerTube 🥳

It enforces artificial scarcity for the sake of upholding outdated business-models. A better world is possible. Lets build it together. Let's abandon technology which is #DefectiveByDesign

Please RT this poll!

I inadvertently ran this experiment at work the other day with an offhand comment on Slack. I'm curious if the results will be similar here in fedispace.

Without searching, do you know what all the items in this list have in common?

* The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
* A Saucerful of Secrets
* Ummagumma
* Atom Heart Mother
* Meddle
* Wish You Were Here

New people, welcome!

If you need help using Mastodon and the Fediverse, check out the Unofficial Guide:

It's got lots of advice for both complete beginners and experienced users. I've tried to write it as clearly and non-technically as possible.

Also, I'm gradually adding all the past posts from FediTips to the guide, and will add future posts too.

If you want to post these tips elsewhere in your own language, please feel free! The tips are meant to be spread as far as possible.

Message me if you have any questions/feedback :blob_cat:

p.s. For an alternative perspective, check out the excellent "Increasingly Less-Brief Guide to Mastodon" by @noelle at:

Asking for money for a brain MRI in emergency, mention of cancer (no details), please boost

Hey fedi friends,

I'm so sorry to make this begpost, but it's for a really really important exam: a brain MRI to see if I have a brain cancer.

It's scheduled on September 21th.

It's gonna cost 194,75€ and living only on my disability benefits, I can't afford it...

Any help would be truly appreciated please, even a boost would be a lot already. Thank you so much 💙

Right, here's the plan:

A big problem with FediTips is that the same tips get repeated quite often because not everyone saw them the first time.

Then, if people half-remember a tip they saw on here, or if they want to find out more about a topic, there's no easy way for them to look it up later.

So, I'm going to change the format of this account to be based around a web page:

(It forms part of a site I run at to encourage non-technical people to host their own online services.)

I'll gradually add sections to the page covering tips from the past year, and will post updates about it on FediTips as I do so.

Any new tips featured on FediTips will also be added to the page. That way, there's always somewhere people can go to to easily catch up on tips they missed.

Any thoughts on this as a plan? Honest feedback appreciated! :blobcat:

The plural reflexive form of "they" is "themselves". What do you prefer for the singular reflexive form of "they"?

Back when she was a young farm-wife, my great great grammy learned what to offer the pixies; it wasn't just sweets and shinies to stave off spoiled milk or bad eggs.

A thimble of whiskey and a pickled vegetable resulted in a perfectly cultured yogurt. A few braids of straw and a pouch of wool ensured strong chicks and ducklings.

Each generation discovered something new.

I discovered lunch-meat and lug nuts kept my car in good repair.

Looks like a lot ofpeople are confused/annoyed by Mastodon and many other Fediverse platforms not backfilling old posts when an account is followed.

This complete lack of backfilling means that many new accounts or those with few followers may appear completely blank, even if they've posted lots of interesting stuff.

If you agree and think Mastodon should backfill at least some posts when people follow an account, please give this issue a thumbs up:

If you're not comfortable using github, let me know and I can try to post on your behalf.

So I finished show. Despite some of the issues I had with it, I did really enjoy it. It's a really good space epic and I truly hope it returns from the indefinite pause it is currently on.
